I found him!!! He is everything that I want! He meets all of the requirements!
He is 6’2 with a beard!
He loves kid and cats!
He has a car (a nice one) and lives on his own!
He is nice to his mom and sister!
He actually listens to me when I speak!
Who said chivalry is dead he opens the door for me all the time!
He is as PERFECT as anyone can get!
I am sooo happy! Finally I have waited so long for this…for him…and he is HERE!!!
BUT is he a Christian?
Ladies why do we keep doing this to ourselves! We find these guys that have all the characteristics that we want in our “future husband” and we totally forget about the fact that above all else we want him to be a Christian and love Jesus with every piece of his being!
The moment we see tattoos and a beard, Sperry’s with a fresh pressed polo, or a beanie and a bible we are sold! It makes sense though. That’s our first impression of a person…their physical appearance is what we initially like.
But what would it look like if instead of being infatuated by their style we were in owe of their heart?!
He may be tall but he might not be true.
In 1 Samuel the people of Israel were displeased with Samuel’s sons and they wanted a king. God spoke to Samuel telling him that the Israelite were not rejecting him, instead they were rejecting God himself as their king, and to give them the king they were seeking. But to warn them of all of the things that would happen once this new king was appointed. Samuel did just that, he warned the Israelites telling them all of the things this king would do and that once this day comes they would cry out to God and on that day he would not answer them. (1 Samuel 8:1-19)
Now you would think after a warning like that the Israelite’s would be like, Hey God really sorry about what we said you’re a great king after all just keep doing what you are doing.
But instead they refused to listen to Samuel and rather than looking through resumes and recommendation letters and assessing the character of all the different candidates they picked the tall guy named Saul. (1 Samuel 9:2)
He was a head taller then everyone so of course he would make a great leader! Right?! God revealed it to Samuel that Saul was the chosen one and the people were over joyed! (1 Samuel 10:23-24)
Now you are probably wondering what Saul being tall has to do with you waiting for a godly man.
That’s just it.
The Israelite’s went with the tall guy rather than waiting for the true guy.
We do this as all the time! We settle for the first attractive tall guy that is into us rather than waiting for the true guy we want! You know the godly guy that is going to love us like Christ loves the church. The guy that is going to respect us and push us towards God rather than pulling us away from Him!
Waiting is so important.
I know waiting is a term that the world hates…we want everything instantly.
That’s why Romans 12:2 is something we should hold so closely to our hearts.
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” Romans 12:2
We live in an instant world, but sometimes when we get things instantly we are settling for second best. We are going with tall rather than true.
For instance microwaveable mac and cheese or homemade mac and cheese. Yes they are technically the same but one is faster and I can have it in 2 minutes…or I can wait longer and have something that not only tastes better but also is healthier for me.
And that is what waiting for a godly man is like…yes you could have this super cute super nice guy and you could be “happy’ and live a “good life” or you could wait for a godly man and walk in happiness and HOLINESS and live a good and GODLY life!
Now I know you are saying that is all fine and dandy and MUCH easier said than done! Or yeah I want that but I have been waiting for so long and it just seems like that doesn’t exist anymore!
So let me give you 3 bits of encouragement as to why it is worth waiting!
- You gain strength!
God grants your strength in waiting.
“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” Isaiah 40:3
When waiting gets tough just lean into the Lord and he will strengthen you!
- You can wait without worry!
When you are fully trusting in God you don’t have to worry about whether or not He will come through for you.
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7
You know His word is true so when you find yourself worrying about who, when, where and how you are going to meet this godly man. You are able to go to God in prayer and trust in Him to show up for you in due time!
- You can be confident in your decisions!
There will always be someone better out there. There will always be someone one funnier, smarter, nicer, and better looking. But when you wait on the Lord to bring the right person into your life you can be confident in that decision. You can be confident that you didn’t settle for second best but rather for Gods personal best for your life!
“This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.” 1 John 5:14-15
There you have it! Three amazing things that come with waiting! You gain strength and confidence and can live a life without worry! So here’s to rising to the occasion and waiting for the guy that’s tall AND true!
With utmost love,
