My favorite children’s book is called The Rain Came Down by David Shannon! Its about how it starts raining and that just starts a whirlwind of problems and then the sun comes out and everyone is happy! I mean its WAYYY better then that but that was just a quick summary! So in Florida it rains a lot! But in a strange way…the day starts off normal super sunny and super hot and then all of a sudden it starts POURING…like can’t see the car in front of me pouring! We have days just like that though everything is fine and the sun is shining then BAM the thunderstorm rolls through! The question is what do we do when the rain comes down?
As adults we can find problems in pretty much anything! When leaves begin to fall off of trees we see that as a problem…extra work. Now that the leaves are falling I have to find time to rake them or better yet find someone else to rake them. Don’t even get me started on holiday preparation! This means the in-laws will be coming, so the house has to be SPOTLESS! Fall is a problem.
Now children on the other hand see the falling of leaves as an opportunity. Yes raking the leaves is work but when you combine a big yard, a few rakes and a couple of friends you get BIG fun! Making a leaf pile just to run and jump in it was the BEST!!! To a child the leaves changing colors is almost like magic! The holidays are full of joy because Grandma and Grandpa are coming over!
Now I know you are wondering what does a kid playing in the leaves have to do with my life literally falling apart! The great thing about kids is they have extreme faith accompanied by the creativity to turn any scenario into playtime.
If only we as adults could find a way to tap back into our childlike faith, then we could trust in God to be able to take any scenario and turn it around! Just like we rake the leaves, we can gather all of the things in our lives that have fallen apart and we can dive right in and start turning them around! These aren’t problems…these are opportunities for God to work something out! Every obstacle, every set back is just another way for God to show off in your life. So call your reinforcements, rake up all of the fallen pieces and dive into turning those problems into opportunities! And know that no matter what there is a rainbow at the end of your storm!
